Oxfordshire presenter Paul Higgs has gone from hospital radio to flying instructor, and now hosts drive-time and new-music shows across community and online stations.
Paul Higgs began his radio journey in the early 1990s, drawn in by the boom in commercial radio and his local station, Fox FM, before joining hospital radio and starting on air in 1994. In 2013 he left radio for a dream job as a flying instructor, later moving into lifeguarding and personal training, until lockdown brought him back to the microphone with remote programmes for his old hospital station.
Since then his home studio has grown into a Soundcraft desk, separate on-air and editing computers and a six-foot data cabinet full of processing. Along the way he has presented on online stations including Deluxe Radio and 365 Radio before moving into community radio.
Today Paul presents the drive-time show on Red Kite Radio in Thame, and evening and Saturday shows on Banbury FM, many of them run by former Fox FM presenters. He champions new indie and alternative bands on Radio Revolution, interviewing artists from around the world, and has just started voice-tracking drive time for Boomerang Radio in Peterborough and Cambridge.
Radio just got me back in again. I still had this love for radio.
